What is the best family campsite near Oxford?

For facilities, Lincoln Farm Park at Standlake is hard to beat: indoor pools, sauna, steam room and a gym, 9 miles from Faringdon. For watersports and lakeside fun, Hardwick Parks next door is superb, and the Oxford Camping and Caravanning Club Site is the easiest base for exploring the city itself with children.

Which campsites in this guide have a swimming pool?

4 of our 40 sites have pools: Lincoln Farm Park, Swiss Farm Touring and Camping, Hoburne Cotswold Holiday Park, Diamond Farm Caravan and Camping Park. Lincoln Farm Park's are indoor (with sauna and steam room), Hoburne Cotswold has indoor and outdoor pools, and Swiss Farm's outdoor pool opens in season.

Which campsites are best for toddlers and first-time campers?

Choose gentle, enclosed sites with short walks to everything: Riverside Park at Wallingford (flat, next to a splash park), Piccadilly near Lacock, Coombe Touring Park near Salisbury, and Stowford Manor Farm with its shallow river paddling. Our 'Best for toddlers' collection has the full list.

Do these campsites take campervans and motorhomes?

Most do. Every site in this guide accepts tents, that is our rule, and the majority also welcome campervans and motorhomes, with electric hook-up shown on each page. Court Hill and Rushey Lock are walk-in tents only, and the Trout meadows at Lechlade and Tadpole Bridge take vans but have no showers.

All are solid October half-term choices, and Burford's wildlife park across the road is a classic autumn trip.

When should we book a family campsite in this area?

For school summer holidays, book by early spring. Small favourites such as Holycombe, Evelyn's Garden and Ye Olde Swan's island fill first, and Lincoln Farm Park and Hoburne Cotswold sell out school holidays months ahead. May half-term and September weekends are the sweet spots for availability and weather.
